Last week, our team here at your Chula Vista Toyota dealers, Toyota Chula Vista, was thrilled to learn that four of our new Toyota vehicles had been named Top Safety Pick+ models by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)! For the 2016 model year, the IIHS required automakers and their models to meet tougher criteria. Keep reading to learn more!

The 2016 Toyota Prius v, 2016 Toyota Avalon, 2016 Toyota Camry, and 2016 Toyota RAV4 were all named Top Safety Pick+ award winners. The new Toyota models were recognized for the addition of the Toyota brand’s pre-collision system. Dino Triantafyllos, Toyota’s North American Chief Quality Control Officer, had this to say about the honor:

At Toyota, we continue to focus on the safety and peace of mind of our customers. We are proud that IIHS has recognized our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.

In order to be named a Top Safety Pick+ award winner, a vehicle must achieve the IIHS’s top rating of Good in their small-overlap frontal-offset, moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, rear crash performance, and roof strength tests. Additionally, each vehicle must have an available front crash prevention system with automatic braking capabilities that is awarded a superior or advanced rating.

Available safety features include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability and traction control, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and automatic pre-collision braking. Also available is the Toyota brand’s Safety Connect service, which includes roadside assistance, stolen vehicle location, and automatic collision notification.
